Houston Backpage, The Backpage Classifieds

Now an integral part of Houston, the Houston Backpage is a classified service for the fastest growing Houston businesses. Offered by the Houston Press Magazine, the poplar Houston Backpage is a classified forum that rivals the best in the business. If you wade through my prose and opinions, I'll offer links and phone numbers to the Backpage later in this post.

I must admit that I'm addicted to the Houston Backpage. The articles in the magazine itself are great, well written, and feature local music, entertainment, business and special interest stories. But it's the Houston Backpage where I find myself first, and most often. If they saved the best for last, they did it best on the Houston Backpage. The Backpage classifieds are a collage of excerpts from the regular Press classifieds. I picked up a copy today and turned it over to find ads from three Houston attorneys, a Dental Spa (what this is I'm not exactly sure; "Dental" and "Spa" and not seem like compatible terms to me,) a handyman, and a psychic. Just below the psychic's ad, was an ad for mold and mildew removal and remediation. Where else on one page can you sign up for kickboxing classes and hypnosis? Where else can your sell your car, your sperm, and your home all in the same place? Where else can you find local swingers and register for a free medical study for victims of sever underarm sweating? Where else can you find services on child adoption, DWI legal defense, and work at home opportunities, right there together. What a resource!

One ad that I have seen repeated on the Backpage in recent months is a large block in the middle by American Apparel. The ads always display youngish, thin brunettes in unitards, leotards, and various styles of tights. I find myself thinking simultaneously, "Wow, she's pretty" and "Wow, she's half my age." I love those ads. I will probably never buy a unitard from American Apparel, but the ads are delightful.
